Artist's Description
Oil painting of singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse at the 2007 Coachella Music Festival. Captured her on stage since she once said in an interview that she was happiest when she was performing. The paint on her body is smooth and applied with brushes. The rest of the painting, hair, clothing and background, are a heavy impasto created with various palette knives. This painting was done in 2016.
About PJ Kirk
Whether painting a person or a teapot, the goal is holding the viewer's attention. In this busy world it takes something remarkable to stop us in our tracks. That could be an event, like a surprising diagnosis or the unexpected death of a close friend. These events give us time to pause and reflect. A common vehicle into my psyche is music. This led me to start painting singer-songwriters whose music has impacted me. Look into their eyes. For a moment time stops. Music and memories take over.
