Artist's Description
Portrait of Bob Dylan, 12x16", oil on wood panel. I had five older siblings who shaped my musical taste. Dylan was the first, and still the most memorable, singer-songwriter in my life. Our entire family knew the words to his songs by heart. I don't know who the photographer was who posed a young Dylan in this smart suit and white shirt. In the original photo his hair was shorter. For the face, I used a later photo* of him with tousled hair. His hair, clothes and background are painted with a knife while his face is painted with a brush. I mixed a touch of Prussian blue into the black that is most noticeable in his eyes.
*Comment if you know the name of the photographer so I can the reference.
About PJ Kirk

Whether painting a person or a teapot, the goal is holding the viewer's attention. In this busy world it takes something remarkable to stop us in our tracks. That could be an event, like a surprising diagnosis or the unexpected death of a close friend. These events give us time to pause and reflect. A common vehicle into my psyche is music. This led me to start painting singer-songwriters whose music has impacted me. Look into their eyes. For a moment time stops. Music and memories take over.

Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colours flowers, so does art colour life. -- Congratulations on your recent sale of an amazing work.
