Artist's Description
This portrait was commissioned by a friend who saw Marley live. Of all the hundreds of concerts he saw in his lifetime, Marley stands out as the best. It was a pleasure and an honor to paint Bob. He produced more than enough music in his tragically short life to see me through the process. In the process I learned about Rastafarianism. They believe Jah (God) is in everyone. As his sone Ziggy says, "Love is my religion." Jah Man!

Whether painting a person or a teapot, the goal is holding the viewer's attention. In this busy world it takes something remarkable to stop us in our tracks. That could be an event, like a surprising diagnosis or the unexpected death of a close friend. These events give us time to pause and reflect. A common vehicle into my psyche is music. This led me to start painting singer-songwriters whose music has impacted me. Look into their eyes. For a moment time stops. Music and memories take over.
