Artist's Description
The first piece I painted as part of the Monterey Bay Plein Air Painting Association. I drove an hour south to Moss Landing. It's a small fishing harbor between Monterey and Santa Cruz. I choose a sheltered spot in the upper harbor where I had a good view of the boats. While painting I was visited by a sea otter eating his lunch.

Whether painting a person or a teapot, the goal is holding the viewer's attention. In this busy world it takes something remarkable to stop us in our tracks. That could be an event, like a surprising diagnosis or the unexpected death of a close friend. These events give us time to pause and reflect. A common vehicle into my psyche is music. This led me to start painting singer-songwriters whose music has impacted me. Look into their eyes. For a moment time stops. Music and memories take over.
