A friend posted his photo of Seacliff Beach with the Santa Cruz Boardwalk in the background on Instagram. I immediately wanted to paint it. He was kind enough to send me his source file. It's been especially fun painting this image with all the found memories of days at the beach and nights at the boardwalk.
About PJ Kirk
Whether painting a person or a teapot, the goal is holding the viewer's attention. In this busy world it takes something remarkable to stop us in our tracks. That could be an event, like a surprising diagnosis or the unexpected death of a close friend. These events give us time to pause and reflect. A common vehicle into my psyche is music. This led me to start painting singer-songwriters whose music has impacted me. Look into their eyes. For a moment time stops. Music and memories take over.
