Village Bridge, 24x30" oil on canvas, is an October landscape painting of The Village in Telluride. This is a studio painting I did based on photos I took in 2016 while attending a two-week painting workshops at the Ah Ha Painting School in Telluride, Colorado. The entire painting is a thick oil paint impasto created with various palette knives.
Whether painting a person or a teapot, the goal is holding the viewer's attention. In this busy world it takes something remarkable to stop us in our tracks. That could be an event, like a surprising diagnosis or the unexpected death of a close friend. These events give us time to pause and reflect. A common vehicle into my psyche is music. This led me to start painting singer-songwriters whose music has impacted me. Look into their eyes. For a moment time stops. Music and memories take over.
