Artist's Description

Al Green, circa 1972, with a big grin and wearing his the white leather suit he was wearing the first time I saw him. It was the summer of 1972. I was up late and caught his concert on a PBS special. He had the voice, the smile and the moves. After a personal tragedy, Green left music to become a minister and establish the Full Gospel Tabernacle church in Memphis. Al later returned to secular music. Which was when I had the pleasure of seeing him perform with a 14-piece band. It was a memorable evening, under the stars with family and friends.

About PJ Kirk

PJ Kirk

Whether painting a person or a teapot, the goal is holding the viewer's attention. In this busy world it takes something remarkable to stop us in our tracks. That could be an event, like a surprising diagnosis or the unexpected death of a close friend. These events give us time to pause and reflect. A common vehicle into my psyche is music. This led me to start painting singer-songwriters whose music has impacted me. Look into their eyes. For a moment time stops. Music and memories take over.
